Rakettitukku’s Commitment to Responsibility

Rakettitukku is committed to conducting fully responsible business operations. As a company, we strive to build a better society and set an example of responsible business practices across industry boundaries. We also see responsibility as a clear competitive advantage. It helps reduce costs and gives consumers and partners the opportunity to make responsible choices.

Responsibility is, above all, about actions. In this article, we explain how we promote responsibility in Rakettitukku’s operations.

Rakettitukku's ESG

Responsibility is typically presented according to ESG reporting. ESG divides responsibility into three thematic categories: environmental responsibility (E = Environment), social responsibility (S = Social), and economic and governance responsibility (G = Governance).

Environmental responsibility

  • Rakettitukku is one of the first companies in the fireworks industry to commit to reducing emissions.
We have verifiably minimized the environmental impact of our operations since 2020 — although our environmental efforts began years before that.
  • Rakettitukku supports Finland’s Carbon Neutral Finland 2035 target. 👉 [Read more about Rakettitukku’s environmental responsibility.]
  • We are well aware of the environmental impact of our operations, which are largely similar to those of other Finnish companies importing and selling products from the Far East.
    • The majority of Rakettitukku’s emissions (52%) come from the manufacturing of products.
    • The second largest portion (33%) arises during transport from China to Finland and delivery to our sales points.
    • Distribution accounts for 5% of our total emissions.
    • Only 4% of emissions result from the use of our fireworks, and 3% from their end-of-life.
We minimize emission impacts by purchasing carbon credits on the carbon markets.
  • Our partner in carbon footprint calculation is Green Carbon Finland Oy. The calculation is always based on the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) — a globally recognized standard for measuring environmental impact.
  • We continuously develop Rakettitukku’s emissions calculation and reporting in accordance with the guidelines published by the Finnish Government (Guide to Good Practices for Voluntary Carbon Markets: Supporting Voluntary Mitigation Action with Carbon Credits – Laine, Anna; Ahonen, Hanna-Mari; Pakkala, Anna; Laininen, Jenni; Kulovesi, Kati; Mäntylä, Iris; 2023-02-01).
  • Rakettitukku has no emissions from purchased energy. We purchase renewable electricity for our facilities and reduce energy consumption through solar panels on the office building and a geothermal heating system in the warehouse.
  • We promote low-emission commuting. Our facilities offer shared shower and bicycle storage areas for employees who walk or cycle to work. In addition, employees have access to electric car charging stations.
  • We minimize air travel related to work duties. In communication with our partners and suppliers, we make extensive use of modern telecommunications and remote meetings whenever possible.

Social Responsibility

  • The well-being of full-time employees is supported by providing comprehensive occupational health care.
  • The occupational safety of Rakettitukku’s full-time and seasonal employees is ensured through safety guidelines. These have been created in a form that is as practical and understandable as possible from the employees’ perspective.
  • Occupational safety matters are also covered in the annual training provided for seasonal employees. In addition, we ensure smooth and safe operations through adequate case-specific instructions.
  • Employees are offered opportunities for training and development.
  • We employ seasonal workers with a low-threshold approach. We hire individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of education. Our recruitment process is smooth and straightforward.
  • According to our agreement, the fireworks are manufactured under good working conditions and in accordance with ethical principles at our suppliers’ factories in China. A local agent in China, responsible for overseeing the factory operations, ensures that the agreement is upheld.
  • We actively support physical activity, hobbies, and civil society by collaborating with various sports clubs and associations during seasonal sales. This allows the organizations to raise funds to support their operations.
  • We aim to raise as much consumer awareness as possible about the safe use of fireworks. Safety is a key focus in all of our communications.
  • We make donations to charitable causes and campaigns we consider important with careful consideration. We always ensure that our support is directed toward a meaningful and genuinely impactful purpose.

In 2023, we donated €5,000 to the Cancer and Radiotherapy Clinic’s donation fund through the Terttu Foundation of Oulu University Hospital. The Terttu Foundation supports research, development, and education in healthcare in Northern Finland by awarding grants and financial assistance for this purpose.

Over the years, we have also contributed to supporting the operations of Lapland’s rescue helicopter Aslak.

In 2024, we made a Christmas donation to Mieli Mental Health Finland to support mental health work among young people.

Administrative and financial responsibility

  • We operate in accordance with laws and fireworks industry regulations. We also expect our partners and suppliers to comply with the same laws and regulations, as well as our bilateral agreements.
  • Rakettitukku is 100% Finnish-owned. Our operations are responsible, open, and transparent.
  • Rakettitukku’s operations are financially profitable, which benefits society.
  • We continuously develop our governance and update our practices as needed. Our development is guided by the principles of good governance.
  • We ensure compliance with the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We also operate in accordance with our data security guidelines.
  • We monitor the ethical standards of our procurement relationships. We regularly visit our supplier’s factories in China to personally ensure that agreed-upon matters are upheld in terms of working conditions and product quality.
  • Rakettitukku has a designated person responsible for sustainability matters, who is the company’s CEO.
